A insulina NPH (neutral protamine Hagedorn) tem duração de ação intermediária (pico em 6 a 12h e duração usual 16 a 20h) e por esse motivo é utilizada 1 ou 2 vezes por dia (noite/antes do desjejum) para manter níveis basais de insulina.
A insulina rápida ou regular começa a agir em 30 a 60 minutos e, tem seu pico de ação em 2 a 4 horas e duração de ação de 6 a 8 horas. Sendo assim, deve ser usada de 30 a 45 minutos antes da refeição.
